About the Bead Work

The beadwork of Bali High all comes from a small traditional village in the south of Bali where the women bead as they raise their children, prepare for ceremonies and make offerings in the Temples.

The beadwork of the Balinese incorporates amazing attention to detail and an extraordinary sense of aesthetics. These are developed through the creation of offerings for the gods from early childhood and an appreciation of beauty which is inherent in the culture. Creativity is extraordinary here and shows in the lovely interplay of colors and design in the work.

Every item is handmade. A simple bracelet may take two days, a bag beautiful enough to be a work of art and strong enough to be used by the wearer may take up to two weeks to complete. The great concentration required to finish a beaded creation may be done in the bead-maker's home or in the company of friends.
